English Vocabulary Learning Tips | How to improve FAST!

Today's lesson will be about  building your vocabulary.

We are going to help you to learn more words, 

Vamos te ajudar a aprender mais palavras,

learn them faster and retain them after the lesson is done.

aprendê-las mais rápido e retê-las depois que a aula acabar.

How do you learn vocabulary?

Como você aprende vocabulário?

Many people take notes from their textbooks

Muitas pessoas tomam notas dos livros didáticos

trying to memorize long lists of unrelated words.

tentando memorizar listas longas de palavras não relacionadas.

Maybe, you have trouble because after all,

Talvez você tenha dificuldade porque afinal,

there are so many words in the English language.

tem tantas palavras no idioma inglês.

Is this you?

If it is, you know the learning vocabulary can be overwhelming and stressful  

Se for, você sabe que aprender vocabulário pode ser sobrecarregante e estressante

but it doesn't have to be.

mas não precisa ser.

Let's start with something easy.

Vamos começar com algo fácil.

"Happy" is an adjective.

"Happy" é um adjetivo.

Now, the trick to expanding your vocabulary quickly is simple.

Agora, o truque para expandir seu vocabulário rapidamente é simples.

Whenever you learn a new word, consider that there may be other forms of the word.

Sempre que você aprende uma palavra nova, considere que pode haver outras formas da palavra.

For example, the adjective "happy" can also be

Por exemplo, o adjetivo "happy" também pode ser

a noun "happiness", an adverb "happily",

um substantivo "happiness", um advérbio "happily",

and all of these words also have opposites

e todas essas palavras também têm opostos

"unhappy", "unhappiness" and "unhappily".

"unhappy", "unhappiness" e "unhappily".

So by learning the first word

Então ao aprender a primeira palavra

and considering the other word forms

you have now learned six words.

Always remember that lots of words come in different forms.

They can be verbs,

Elas podem ser verbos,

nouns can be a concept, a thing or a person,

substantivos podem ser um conceito, uma coisa ou uma pessoa,

adjectives and finally, adverbs.

Let's do one more together.

Vamos fazer mais um juntos.

Imagine you learned the verb "succeed" for the first time.

Imagine que você aprendeu o verbo "succeed" pela primeira vez.

Well, "succeed" can also be the noun "success",

Bem, "succeed" também pode ser o substantivo "success",

the  adjective "successful" or its opposite "unsuccessful"

o adjetivo "successful" ou seu oposto "unsuccessful"

and the adverbs "successfully" and "unsuccessfully".

e os advérbios "successfully" e "unsuccessfully".

Let's do one more example.

Vamos fazer mais um exemplo.

If you are an employee that means you are employed

Se você é um "employee" isso significa que você está "employed"

and you have employment but if you become unemployed

e tem "employment" mas se você fica "unemployed"

then you need to find an employer

então precisa achar um "employer"

who will employ you to get you out of unemployment.

que vai te "employ" pra te tirar de "unemployment".

Hopefully, you are employable and not unemployable.

Esperançosamente, você é "employable" e não "unemployable".

Now it's time for you to practice.

Agora é hora de você praticar.

Here's the noun "variety".

Aqui está o substantivo "variety".

How many related words can you think of?

Can you come up with nine more?

Pause the video and take a couple of minutes to try.

Try to use this technique  whenever you learn new words
